TDave and Nancy Brown’s Mustard Seed Farm is an excellent example of small-scale, diverse organic agriculture at its best! Their 25 acres produce a very large fall pumpkin crop as well as a huge diversity of other vegetables, including leaf lettuces, winter squash, roma tomatoes, Brussels sprouts, cabbage and cauliflower. They have been running this organic farm since 1991, and generally employ about 4 or 5 people. Farmer Brown not only keeps himself busy farming and delivering his vegetables, but also runs a vibrant Community Garden Program, which can have anywhere from 25-40 members at a time. In their Community Garden Program, the local community members can participants by paying $5.00/year and work 12 hours a season in exchange for Mustard Seed Produce.
